Angel Cafe

Now dear reader, being students ourselves we fully understand when you think "I can't afford that, I have to drink myself to death!" So when we suggest heading down to Angel Cafe on Free School Lane (opposite the Waterside centre near the bingo hall), please hear us out and don't look so affronted.
The coffee shop offers a range of teas, coffees and hot chocolates for anyone to enjoy. If you are so impatient that you tend to scold yourself drinking hot drinks then don't worry, they offer cold ones as well.
The most surprising thing about the quaint little chapel is the paninis. They offer a range from cheese and meatball to chicken salsa, peri peri chicken and one filled entirely with peppers (madness). The paninis on offer are delicious but we wouldn't say they are moreish, just that they leave you wanting more. The difference here being that you aren't left wanting more panini you are left wishing you were full.
At £3.95 a pop it's safe to say this is the place to take Mum and Dad when they come visit and demand to buy you lunch. They can admire the art on the walls and the relaxed atmosphere that the Angel Coffee Shop emits whilst you enjoy your panina safe in the knowledge that it didn't cost you a penny.

Lamb Chop with Crispy Garlic Potatoes

Roast Lamb with Garlic and Rosemary

Ingredients:

  • 1 leg of lamb weighing about 4lb (1.8kg)

  • 3 large cloves garlic, peeled and sliced into about 20 slivers

  • 2 large rosemary stems, cut into about 20 sprigs

  • 1 onion sliced with salt and pepper seasoning

Method:

  1. Cut about 20 deep cuts into the skin of the lamb.

  2. Then push a sliver of garlic, followed by a small sprig of rosemary into each cut and season the meat with salt and pepper.

  3. Slice the onion in half and place on roasting tin, then rest the lamb on top of the onion halves and cover loosely with foil.

  4. Cook in the oven on high shelf for one and a half hours, then remove foil and let it cook for 30 minutes.

  5. Remove lamb from oven, cover loosely with foil again and allow it to rest for 20 minutes. Then make the Gravy.

The Slug and Lettuce

[caption id="attachment_130" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Service with a smile"][/caption]

                                                     274 High Street, Lincoln LN2 1JG

Every Monday night one of Lincoln’s very own Slug and Lettuce throws caution to the wind and offers half price food for all! After a few bad experiences at the Slug (A bland tuna panini and a traumatic chicken korma) we decided to go for the bread and humus starter followed by the southern fried chicken wrap.
The bread and humus was as always, delicious. We honestly don’t know why they offer any other starters. Whether you like to dip your slightly warmed bread in the balsamic vinegar or the humus is completely up to you we just recommend you GET THE BREAD AND HUMUS!
The southern fried chicken wrap was incredible. Kentucky fried who? Unlike Chicken Cottage the chicken was moist and flavoured by a range of peppers and sauce. Beautiful.
Unfortunately you have to pay a pound for a side of chips (But it’s half price, so we were hardly going to complain.) A sound tip is to keep the humus from the starter as it makes an awesome chip dip!
